No sound from Flash video

An update: I removed (with --purge) flashplugin-nonfree, and reinstalled it, and now Flash audio works. However, my dad wouldn't have known to do this. :-)

I have the same problem (versions are the same), though purging and reinstalling the flashplugin did solve the issue for me.

Oops, i meant it did NOT solve the problem for me.

Fixed sound issue on 32 bit Kubuntu 9.04 with latest updates. This is how fixed:
1. Clicked mixer on speaker icon (Kmix)
2. Adjusted PCM volume from 0 to highest volume (make sure switch speakers down)
3. Now there is sound from flash player.

when you see this, is there a pulseaudio process still running? maybe starting pulseaudio from the command line helps?

check whether it runs by: ps -eaf | grep pulseaudio

I suffer the same problem, but I'm using x86-64.

I forgot to add that I'm using the 64bit version downloaded from adobe site and I've not installed the package flashplugin-nonfree because it installs the 32 bit version (that's another bug, I suppose)

Your problem is not a bug you need to install nspluginwrapper to use 32bit flash on 64bit system. We are unable to support 64bit flash at this time, we need to wait until its final or a lot closer to final. As for seeing the same thing that means its an upstream bug not Ubuntu bug so maybe someone should report it upstream adobe. We are unable to fix this bug since the license is nonfree.

64bit plugin works great (incomparably better than the 32bit version with the wrapper) and I also found a workaround:
- uninstall pulse
- create /etc/asound.conf with this content:
ctl.mixer0 {
    type hw
    card 0
}

pcm.dsp0 {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "dmix"
}

- unmute and raise volume on the right channel on the mixer

Now everything works fine, as before (in Hardy and Intrepid).

While current release of 64bit flash is not perfect yet (The only major problem I saw is that facebook games are not working) it is much better in speed and stability in respect to the 32bit version+wrapper so I strongly recommend to use it (simply download it and unpack in /usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins/).

I have kubuntu 32-bit jaunty and I finally got sound on flash by
sudo aptitude remove pulseaudio
and then
sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio stop
to make sure it was stopped
But sound with mplayer was fine -- so this fixed sound for flash

I posted a comment in #367173, but since my machine is 32-bit, the comment probably belongs here:

I had the same problem on a fresh install (but with a copy of my home directory from the previous install), using the adobe flash plugin from apt (flashplugin-installer). All other sound applications were working, but not flash.

I noticed that pulseaudio did not start, but complaining about the pulse user not being in the pulse-rt group, so I just fixed that in /etc/group and now it works. You can also do that by running

sudo usermod -aG pulse-rt pulse

In the process I also deleted my old .pulse directory and .pulse-cookie. Don't know if that is necessary.
