Friends, it gives us great pleasure to invite you to the James Finley Retreat again in Tucson, Arizona. This silent retreat will be held at the beautiful Redemptorist Renewal Center. Come and revel in God’s amazing nature and beauty while engaging in the wisdom of James Finley.

The topic for this year's retreat will be St. Theresa of Avila & Thomas Merton. This year is the five hundred year anniversary of the birth of Saint Theresa of Avila, and the one hundred year anniversary of the birth of Thomas Merton.

In this retreat we will turn to Therese's classic work The Interior Castle, in which she helps us find God by guiding us through the mansions of our own soul.  Throughout the retreat we will reflect on passages in Merton's writings that resonate with the teachings of Theresa.  In this way we can discover how these two Christian mystics, in concert with each other, help us to live in a deep experience of God's presence in our lives.

Themes covered in the conference include how Theresa and Thomas Merton help us in the gentle art of:

  • Learning to grow in psychological and spiritual maturity.
  • Learning to respond to the first stirring of mystical awakening.
  • Learning to be faithful to the mysterious process in which our life and God's life merge into a life that is at once God's and our own.
  • Learning to life in fidelity to this interior path in the midst of today's world.
