City University of New York School of Law is a fourth-tier school, according to U.S. News & World Report, but for public interest law it’s No. 1.

PreLaw Magazine ranked the nation’s law schools for public service, and gave CUNY the top spot and an A-plus grade. Also receiving an A-plus was Yale Law School, ranked No. 2 by PreLaw Magazine and No. 1 overall by U.S. News.

PreLaw Magazine ranked law schools for public interest based on three categories: curriculum (including clinical opportunities), cost of legal education, and public-service placement. Ninety-six of the nation’s law schools—almost half—have an above average commitment to public service, the publication says.

The top five are:

1) City University of New York School of Law (getting an A-plus)

2) Yale Law School (getting an A-plus)

3) Rutgers School of Law-Newark (getting an A)

4) Stanford Law School (getting an A)

5) University of California at Berkeley School of Law (getting an A)
