This weekend is perhaps the highlight in the local calendar for the village of Rosneath, with two big community events on successive days.
Today (Saturday July 19) is the summer fete at St Modan’s Church, while tomorrow (Sunday) sees the Rosneath Peninsula Highland Gathering.
Today’s fete, starting at 2pm in the church grounds, features stalls including home baking, produce, tombola, plants and sweets, with afternoon tea being served in the church hall.
The Highland Games will bring visitors from all over the area, as well as competitors from the USA, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Northern Ireland and England.
Gates will open at 9am, with the solo piping competition at 9.30.
Then at 12.30 the Highland dancing competition begins, and at the same time the grand parade will be led through the village lead by the chieftain, Captain Alistair Willis, Captain HM Naval Base Clyde with the gathering chairman Robert MacIntyre.
The parade will be accompanied by the Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band.
The official opening will be at 12.50 and the Highland Games events will begin at 1pm, featuring traditional events such as such as tossing the caber and the tug ‘o war, with the gathering being closed at 4.30.
Tickets are £5 for adults, concessions £3, children £2 and a family ticket is £10.
