Why this petition matters

Started by East Sunset Heights Association

The Heights Transit center is located at Calvacade, Studewood, and North Main in Houston Heights, Texas. It is the only METRO Transit Center located in the greater Heights area, which is one of the more populated areas of urban Houston and quickly growing, with about 55,000 people in the Greater Heights and Independence Heights

In the upcoming METRO Draft Reimagined Network Plan, the Heights Transit Center is not included. With the new extension of the North Light Rail Line only 1.5 miles away, the Heights Transit Center can be utilized as an essential hub for residents in this neighborhood.

The Heights Transit Center right now is being utilized only as a bus stop and not as a potential inner-city commuter line. For example, dedicated commuter buses could transport workers to the Texas Medical Center Transit Center, Northwest Transit Center, and the Downtown Transit Center. This could potentially provide new transit options for people in the Heights.

Hundreds of people use METRO everyday in the Heights to go to work. Keeping and updating the Heights Transit Center could provide even more options for the families in these neighborhoods. If METRO truly wants to update their system and provide equal transit options to all the people of Houston, then they will keep and update the Heights Transit Center.

The East Sunset Heights Association is spearheading this effort to save this unique and valuable asset to the Greater Heights neighborhoods.
