When tennis racket tantrums go wrong

When you’ve played 24 career sets against Rafael Nadal without taking a single one, then stumble before hitting an easy shot at 5-6 in a tense first-set tiebreaker, thus giving Nadal the opening set in the year-end ATP World Tour Finals — yeah, you’re going to be a little bummed out about it.

Stanislas Wawrinka was furious with himself for stumbling before an easy approach that would have leveled the tiebreak. So when walking to the sideline for the post-set changeover, Wawrinka took out his frustrations on his racket and the net. He’s lucky his head wasn’t collateral damage. Watch as the Swiss player’s racket ricochets off the net and almost clocks him in the face.

Stan has always been more of a backhand guy.

His face intact, Wawrinka set out to destroy the racket, successfully this time.
