SALT LAKE CITY — Chuck Norris — martial artist, film star, author, philanthropist, internet meme, devout Christian and energetic Republican — recently announced his endorsement of presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich.

In his first of two separate articles posted at wnd.com, Norris compared Gingrich to Benjamin Franklin, King David and “others like them.”

“We must remember,” Norris states, “that we’re electing a president, not a pastor or pope. And with the mainstream media and a billion-dollar Obama campaign coffer on the president’s side, we need a veteran of political war who has already fought Goliath, because he will be facing Goliath’s bigger brother. “

Norris’ latest article, “Waging war on the trifecta of tyranny,” comes on the heels of Donald Trump’s endorsement for previous Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. And while many political analysts are predicting that Romney will inevitably take the nomination, Norris’ decision to support Gingrich comes as no surprise to the Romney supporters.

In the 2008 presidential race, Norris chose to endorse Mike Huckabee over Romney, and was very vocal about his opposition to the current frontrunner.

CNN reported Norris as saying, "How can [Romney] knock [Huckabee] when [Romney's] made so many mistakes? I mean flip-flopping, all the flip-flopping he's done.

"One time he's pro-abortion, next time he's pro-life. One time he's pro gay marriage. Now he's anti-gay marriage. I mean, what are you?"

In his latest statements, Norris accuses Romney of buying the election.

“Last week, the Washington Post exposed that there are 41 mega-rich individuals who bankroll Romney’s campaign and his purchase of the seat in the Oval Office,” Norris said.

“How do you think Romney would have fared or the Florida story ended if Newt had spent $17 million on 13,000 anti-Romney ads? I think Mitt would have been toast long ago if he entered the presidential ring with similar funding.”

It’s unclear whether Norris’ passionate endorsement will help Gingrich regain some of the momentum lost after his defeat in Florida, but if Lanford beard of EW.com is correct, “Chuck Norris doesn't endorse presidential candidates — he anoints political saviors.”
