The Blacksmith's Song is a sonic journey into the world of iron and metal as heard through blacksmith artist Steve Weiss and his sound sculptures. His personal reflections on the intersections between life and art are reflected in the nuanced and sonorous sound world he has created.

After the death of his wife, Weis, who was running a renowned blacksmith arts business in Toowoomba, moved to Kin Kin on the Sunshine Coast. Seeking to make sense of his life and recover from his grief, he cleaned up the industrial land and began building an array of metal sculptures from derelict metals, large fuel tanks, steel bars and gravel crusher parts.

Today his property has become a vast sound garden hosting an arresting collection of works with a huge range of sonic potential. Whether it's the ambient tones of the Duelling Banjos, the resonant hum and rasp of the Wandjina or the brassy plinks and plonks of Whirlygig, all these sounds are a celebration of what Weis calls a sizzlingness in our existence.

Even with my eyes closed, the blackness isn't that black. It's a kind of darkness that sizzles with purples and greys and golds.
