Apple’s iOS dominates, but Google’s Android is catching up fast

15 Jun 2010

While Apple’s iOS – the operating system that powers the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad – is the dominant operating system in terms of mobile market share of almost 60pc in the US, Google’s Android is taking chunks out of Apple’s share.

New figures from online tracking firm Quantcast show that Android has 19.9pc of the market and if the recent launch of the HTC Incredible on Verizon and Sprint’s HTC Evo 4G is anything to go by, Android is continuing to rapidly gain market share.

“As we can see, in the past year Android has taken market share from all parts of the market, and noticeably so from Apple’s OS,” Quantcast said in its blog.
