Penang is my late dad’s hometown, so i’ve been visiting and staying in the Island many times since I was a child. I’d say that its capital George Town has it all; beaches, historical sites, shopping places, cultural centres, you name it and they got it.
One of the must-visit place in Malaysia whenever you’re in the country; please take note that it’s not that close to Kuala Lumpur/KL. If you’re driving from KL, it’ll take around 4-5 hours drive (and longer traveling hours train). Alternatively, you may take a 45 minutes flight via KLIA.
Oh, and skip the fancy clothing when you’re in Penang. It’s hot for the most part of the year. There’s no need to suffer in the name of fashion.

George Town is the perfect destination for those looking for a weekend getaway from the bustling concrete forest that is Kuala Lumpur. It is also perfect for those who hold a deep and special appreciation for cities that preserves their rich history and heritage. As you walk around the city, you can find yourself surrounded by many amazing street art and cute heritage sites, such as temples and other old Chinese architecture. And don't forget about the plethora of amazing and affordable street foods you can come across during your walk. Definitely don't end your day early and make the most of your evening as there are many night markets happening daily.

During our recent stay, Alan went above and beyond to ensure that our requests were handled efficiently and that we felt heard and valued as guests. His professionalism and dedication to his role did not go unnoticed, and it significantly contributed to the positive experience we had during our stay.
Exploring the local culinary scene, including Teksen Restaurant, Plus Eatery Cafe, Uncle Lim’s Kacang Tumbuk, and many others, was a true highlight of our trip. Having such a diverse selection of dining options nearby added immense value to our stay.
Thank you for providing us with a comfortable and convenient accommodation experience. We look forward to visiting again and indulging in more of the delicious offerings near your hotel.

UNESCO site, old buildings well kept, very clean streets all around. Friendly neighborhood, most business operators are very welcoming too. CAT Free shuttle bus service is excellent. We had great time visiting Kek Lok Si, The Habitat, Penang Hill, Peranakan Museum Penang, Blue Mansion, War Museum.
"The Top" at Komtar is very disappointed visit though, staff are not welcoming, very bad attitude. facility around is poor too, access to entrance is somehow confusing. Overpriced & not worth the visit.
The city council should pay serious attention in maintaining walkway of shoplots as we noticed many of the shop operator blocked their front walkway by using huge pots & plants, chairs, signboard, motorcycles and so on, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road side & fight with oncoming traffic, which already packed with double parked cars, potentially causing unwanted accident, this to me is totally unacceptable in such a beautiful city.
Tourism board/City council should erect more signboard for main tourist attractions too, it definitely helps tourists to walk around.

Charming city with a long history.
Charming city with a long history. The local food is amazing! Try the hawker stalls, local nyonya food/ restaurants. But if you want something fancier like modern western food, there are many new restaurants opened by the younger generation. Lots of coffee cafes operated by young people and they are great! It is easy to get around Penang in a Grab, and cheap too. Spend 1/2 day in Penang Hill - take the train up. Its only 4.5 min over a 2 km steep climb. The visit is worth it.
Nice Concept, Good Location
Manager of the hotel which is Non Malaysian Cut Of my Deposit Money Rm20 for the dirty Floormat which is a normal dirt for a floor mat where i mention earlier the room was a bit dirt and the dirt was a common dirt when we wipe our leg such a stupid reason he gave me when i tell him that u cant cut my money and i said i wan to talk to ur boss he said I'm the manager here which not a good service not well taught he needs to be more trained I'm really disappointed in this hotel.
The check-in was quick. The staff were friendly. The hotel is unique and goes with the theme of George town. It is a clever way to have a historic dated boutique hotel. It has a nice garden to sit and relax with a cup of tea/coffee. It is walking distance to all the attractions in George Town like Armenia Street, Street Art, Clan Jetty etc. You can also make use of the free Rapid Penang Shuttle buses, that stops at about 22 stops around George Town. Great for a short stay to explore George Town.
This was my second time staying at the B Street Hotel, and it was just as cozy as the first time staying in Penang. The entire staff was welcoming and friendly, always smiling and eager to help. The location was right near all the popular sights and many restaurants and cafes, definitely a prime location. I ended up booking another night here at a later date when returning to Penang from Langkawi, and I'll stay here again for future visits.
The hotel was conveniently located in little India, George Town with several eating options. We stayed in a small room with twin beds that were placed upon a large wooden platform with no floor space between the beds. Room was clean and shower pressure really good. Breakfast was varied with both local and continental options. The fresh fruit and juices were really delicious and perfect for the weather.
Great heritage-style hotel in the middle of George Town - close to many sites and activities. The property doesn't have a lot of fancy bells and whistles like a fitness room or laundry facilities but you don't go here for that. You stay at Yeng Keng for the old school Chinese mansion feel. Service was good, staff was friendly, our suite room was roomy and comfy. We would come back.
Wonderflul building with extremely well preserved original structures and spaces. The staff is very welcoming and helpful at all times. Wide selection of local and international dishes and juices at breakfast. Nonetheless the hotel is in a very convenient location to explore George Town's UNESCO recognized historical city centre.
A hotel to feel very good in George Town
Very friendly service
Authentic design, modern bathroom, spacious room
Within walking distance to the historical city center / street art locations
Nice breakfast and breakfast area
Great location as a starting point for activities
No shoes policy was a nice surprise, easy to keep it clean everywhere and protecting those beautiful wooden floors. The location is also good, in the walking distance to the main attractions in George Town. The hotel provides unlimited access to water, coffee and tea.
The accommodation is in a very good location. The main attractions can be easily reached on foot. I particularly liked the cleanliness and the friendly, helpful staff. Thank you for everything - if I come back to George Town, I’ll choose SAVV Hotel again.
Fantastic heritage boutique hotel, attention to details and every corner of this hotel is filled with cultures. The room is cozy and the bed is comfortable. Super friendly owners and excellence service from the hotel staffs. Will definitely revisit again!
room: ok
-sound proof, didn't hear anything outside the room
-1st time stay in hotel room with ceiling fan
-quiet air conditioning
-water pressure is good
location: good
-near to George town ,walking time around 15mins to old town
This apartment suitable for big family and group of friends price reasonable besides the hotel delicious western Branch Malaysia Cafe and Thai Mookata was my favorite restaurant recommend to people interesting.
A boutique hotel but took care of all basic needs for a guest. Check in was seamless. Toiletries were provided. Rooms were clean. Most impt for us the toilet wet and dry areas were well separated :)
